Another new band:Franz Ferdinand. Here is Paul Thomson(drums),Nick Mc Carthy(guitar, piano, back vocals, songwriter),Alex Kapranos(guitar, lead vocals, songwriter)and Bob Hardy(bass) sat in the armchair. They began their carrer in 2004 with an eponymous album. It's a 11-songs album, but which songs!! It's very dynamic! In an interview,Alex said they wanted to "make girls dance",it was supposed to be a joke but everybody consider the album by this view and in fact,it's a pretty good definition after all... there's nothing bad in this album! They fast began to be consider as the new pop band, like the Libertines have been at the released of their first album! They released a second album called "You Could Have It So Much Better",with, again, a lot of really good songs! A part have been recorded in New York, which inspired some songs like "Eleonor put your boots on". They're are admired for a something very special that you find in songs like "Take me Out"(their biggest hit) or "Do you Want to":the complete change of rythm at a moment in the song.I had the chance to see them on stage when they were'nt too famous,in November 2004. We were in a very small room, just in front of the stage and I have to say that they are very very very talented!Songs are the same on the cd and in stage, all members are very good musicians and they finally do someting very refreshing and it really make people smile!

I didn't say why I have to talk about the Libertines just after the Clash,so I'm doing it here. It's very simple in fact,Mick Jones,ex-member of The Clash have produced their album,he put them right under the sunlights. On the Picture you can see Patrick Walden(guitar),Pete Doherty(*yes it's the same!* vocals, songwriter),Drew Mcconnel(bass) and Adam Ficek(drums). Those are the members of Babyshambles. Also produced by Mick Jones, it's the new Pete's band. Their story isn't long for the moment but so hard to understand! They have many problems,a lot of their appartions on stage have been considered like fucking bad, even if he songs are very good! They did a first album but it didn't really circulate in the music business, magazins spoke about them only for what they did in the last week, there's always something to say about them! But they released an official album this week.I bought it today,it's called "Down in Albion" and it's fantastic! The first song "La Belle et la Bête"(Pete loves french) included a part where Kate Moss herself(Pete's girlfriend)sings!"Fuck Forever" is such a good song too!The riffs of guitar and bass are very impressive and sometimes when you listen to Pete singing you have a curious impression, like if you were in a funeral ceremony, but he begins to sing loudly on the chorus "I'm fuck forever if you don't mind" and you're completly blow by the music,it brings you somewhere else, and it's so pleasant!I can't stop listening to it and it immediatly passed on my hit songs' list!I'm gonna listening to it again and again all night long, and you should do the same!Very good job, Pete.

I just talked about The Clash, so I must now talk about The Libertines! As usual, from left to right:Gary Powell(drums), Carl Barat(guitar, vocals),John Hassal(bass) and Pete Doherty(guitar, vocals). The two guitarists are the songwriters of two amazing albums "Up the Braket" released in 2003 and "Can'tStand me now"" in 2004. It's difficult to speak about this band because there's so many things, you don't know wich one to pick! First, they were the leader of a new wave of pop-music in England, like Oasis or Blur have been in the 90's. The music is very good and the two songwriters are very talented.Their best songs are "Can't Stand me Now","Music When the Lights Go On","The Man Who Would Be King","Time for Heroes","Up The Bracket"...That's all for the music. Then I have to talk about the band himself. Relationships are very complicated! For exemple:Pete and Carl are best friends,Pete is heroin and coke addict,he stole Carl flat, but Carl forgive him, then Pete do something else and ended up in jail for 2 month, after that he joined the band again, but let them during their European tour. Carl, who couldn't support the situation anymore decided to fired Pete for the band.So now,you can always see the Libertines on stage, but without Pete, and without him,it made a big hole...who knows?Maybe one day they gonna make a last concert!I hope!!
The Clash. One of the most important punk band. This band is the result of The 101'ers leaded by Joe Strummer and London SS,leaded by Mick Jones. At the beginning,Joe Strummer was in a blues band, but one day he saw the Sex Pistols on stage, and decided to be a part of the punk revolution that began in the late 70's in England. In 1979, they released "London Calling",much more than an ablum,it turned to be the anthem of all a generation of punks, it's a screm in the country, against society, poverty, politics and all. They released some album among which you have the songs "Should I Stay or Should I Go", "Clampdown", "Jimmy Jazz", "Rock the Casbah" and a lot of other hits. Mick Jones has been fired in 1983 because the other members thought he was too far away from their first idea. In 1985,they definitly split up. On december 2002 died the leader Joe Strummer, big choc for all fans, but their music survive to everything and it's not the end, their success is still huge, their songs are still consider by everyone like a call when you're confused, and I hope we'll never forget them.
You see this man? He's one of the most important artist of the century, believe me!
His name's Lou Reed, he began his career writing and playing songs with the Velvet Underground(see below the Nirvana's post)The most famous album he did is "Transformer",it's a 11-songs cd,and all so good...You must know at least one of them "Walk on the Wild Side"(if one day you have the time, listen and translate the may be surprised!)It's this famous song with a bass-line all over that goes like "Doo Doo-Doo Doo Doo-Doo Doo Doo-Doo Doo Doo-Doo..." againg and again, cool pretty song in fact.He made a lot of albums (New York,Coney Island Baby,Berlin[in which you can find the songs "Caroline says 1&2"],Metal Machine Music...)The last one is very important. In fact, Lou Reed was so irritated by the bad critics he had that he made this album. It's only two "songs",you just listen a sound very very distorded and the guitar is completly screaming, there's no lyrics, how can you put lyrics on that?It was supposed to be a big joke, but most of the fans didn't appreciated at all and wanted Lou to explain why he did that.He didn't answer,Lester Bangs did it for him. This man is one of the best rock critics that ever exist in the whole world. He was a big fan of Lou Reed and before,of the Velvet Underground. He consider "Metal Machine Music" like Lou Reed wanted to,just like a joke, and he did so good critics that the album became a legend. He says that it might be one the best album we could ever listen to, and he built his renown. Lou Reed is still alive, how surprising when you know all he did in his life (he was a junkie, and then he tried to stop drugs by drinking, then by medicines and al that kind of stuff)He will released a movie in October 2006 called "Walk on the Wild Side"(when I say that this song is famous!)he plays in,and David Bowie too!(David Bowie is the producer of "Transformer",they are friends since a long time!)I'm in a hurry to see that movie,it would be really dark and weird, just like Lou Reed in fact!I'd like to see him on stage if he comes in France one day,or maybe whenI'll be in New York!

Here is a picture of the famous band Nirvana. You can see from left to right: Kurt Cobain (vocals, guitar and songwriter),Krist Novoselic(bass) and Dave Grohl (drums). Aow...what can I say about 'em?If you don't know them you're such an idiot and you don't know nothing to Rock, but I'll be glad to make you discover it!Nirvana is one of the best rock/grunge band that ever exist. Kurt Cobain badfully for us died in 1994 but their songs are still the best and for exemple,on the famous album "Nevermind",you can find a song called"Smell Like Teen Spirit"...what can I say? It's amazing...if you're not prepared to be complety blown again just don't listen to it,'cause it's so a huge chock, you hear the song and there's Kurt screaming against all the world, hating his guitar and tortured her,Krist fighting his bass and oh God,Dave shooting his drums like anybody else can do's still the number one song of all rock charts and it must be the best song in the last 50 years!Nirvana is so great,so cool. They are the leader of the grunge and many new rock bands are still inspired by them,of course, who can not?

Here is another of my favourite rock band:The Velvet Underground. It's quite old now because this album have been released in 1967,I discover them by chance.I was reading an interview of Julian Casablancas and I saw that his favourite song was "Heroin",I found it and immediatly listen to,it has been a huge chock,I loved it,I use to love it and I will always love it,it's so weird and so....ah I have no words but if you have the opportunity listening to it,please thought about me and do it!!You have, from left to right on the picture:Moe Tucker(drums),Sterling Morrison(guitar),Lou Reed(vocals, guitar, songwriter) and John Cale(bass, organ, electric viola). The band has been highly supported by Andy Warhol(he made the picture upper)and they began to play in the Factory.Andy imposed a singer on the album,Nico, she's not on the picture, simply because she never be a part of the Velvet, she consider herself so much superior than that! She appears like "Chanteuse"on the album and in fact it's called "The Velvet Underground AND Nico"she wasn't really a part of it.She had a relation with Lou Reed, then she leave him and he throw her away from the band few years after. She had a very special voice, like if a ghost speak sometimes and it's very surprising the first time you listen to it.But the Velvet is really weird, you love their music or you don't love it,it's so strange,so dark...They split up few years after and they made just a final concert in 1977 at Le Bataclan in Paris, after that, some died and some didn't want to met each other.Last thing about the band:a legend says that if you suck the banana of the original gonna be in a acid-trip!

Here is one my favorite band:The Strokes, you gonna see them so often on this blog that I think I should have called this "The Strokes Blog"!
In order, from left to right: Nick Valensi (first guitar), Fabrizio Moretti (drums), Nikolai Fraiture (bass), Julian Casablancas (singer, songwriter),Albert Hammond Jr(second guitar).
They made a first demo called "The Modern Age",it goes very well and they recorded their first album "Is This It" in 2001,then they recorded "Room on Fire"(2003)and they'll released a new album called "First Impression of Earth"in the early January. Among their very very good songs are: "Last Nite","New York City Cops","Take it or Leave it"(all from "Is this It"),"Whatever Happened","Reptilia","12:51","The Way it is","The End has no End"(from "Room on Fire")and "Juicebox","Heart in a Cage" and i'm sure a lot of other but I didn't listen to it yet on "First Impression of Earth".They imposed their name in music businness so fast that it's quite incredible!A journalist told them one day: "You made "The Modern Age" and you conquered the world!"It's not exactly true and it makes them laugh loudly but you see what kind of things most of people think! In fact there's 2 sorts of people, the first part think that they're just 5 rich boys from Manhattan(they all come from quite rich family:Julian's father is the fondator of the famous Elite society,Nick's mother owns a french restaurant in the Upper East Side...)but none of them is born with a silver spoon in the mouth. They worked hard to pay the record of "The Modern Age" and they continue to work hard to do very very very good songs!
